Independent Awareness — Day 184

We are halfway through our yearlong mindfulness daily practice challenge. Today we begin our second journey through our minds by looking at our human mind and its faculty of awareness. Today also happens to coincide with America's Independence Day. The concept of independence is a perfect way to start talking about awareness.
You are your awareness. It you. But it's all too easy to get caught-up in the contents of your awareness, and start to think that you are your thoughts (so much so that an ego is created), feelings and body sensations. This is how we normally live. We're caught-up in an internal mind movie. Getting out of that – waking-up / becoming aware (that you're in a movie) – is the first critical step in practicing mindfulness.
The independence of your awareness frees you from all of that. You live in a perspective that's clearly aware of what's going on inside and around you, but you are decoupled from it and are able to remain still. This makes all the difference in the world!
PRACTICE
Wake-up! Inhabit your awareness.
Observe: a) a breath or body sensation, and b) that you're observing. 🙂🙃
